Hello! My name is Lexie Metzler.
I am going into my sophomore year at County College of Morris, and I formed the
project “Headbands for Cancer.” I was spending my first semester at York
College of PA, when I was on the popular crafting and recipe website pinterest.com. While on the site, I came
upon a craft that consists of using old t-shirts to make a 5 braid headband.
Always wanting to contribute to the fight against cancer, I saw this as the
perfect opportunity. I decided that I would ask people for t-shirt donations,
make the headbands, and sell them. Every single dollar made goes to cancer
research.
Knowing I would need help, I
formed a Team: Katlyn Houtz, Samantha Leinert, Jamie Davis, and Rachel Silva.
Afterwards, the project officially took off and the response from the Randolph
and Roxbury Community was huge! Before we knew it, t-shirt donations were
pouring in weekly for almost two months straight, and we received more t-shirts
than we ever imagined, helping the project grow!
The Team and I hope to raise as
much money as possible by selling as many headbands as possible. We do our best
to use up as much of every single t-shirt that can be used. At the end of the
project, any scraps of fabric that cannot be used will be donated to the art
department of schools. In the very rare instance that a shirt cannot be used
(if the material does not work well), they will be donated to clothing drops.
We thank you for your support in
our project and are excited for the end result.
